Why the food sherpa?
"Sherpa" is a Tibetan word, which derives from shar, meaning East and the suffix, pa , meaning "people." It references the Sherpa ethnic group, which hails from the Himalayan region of Nepal. Over the centuries, the term "sherpa" (with a lowercase "s") has largely become synonymous with the local people who have been regularly employed as guides for mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas. So, while a sherpa may be considered your expert guide on a mountain excursion, the food sherpa is your expert guide to great food in the comfort of your own home!
Who is the food sherpa?

Keith Steury - the food sherpa
Keith Steury is the food sherpa. He holds a a Professional Diploma from L'Academie de Cuisine's Culinary Arts Program, a Certificate of Achievement from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Virginia in Information Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington).
Keith worked in the corporate world for nine years before making the life-changing decision to seriously pursue his passion for cooking in 2005. In 2006, he graduated with honors and first in his class from the professional culinary arts program at L’Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Most recently, Keith honed his culinary skills at the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City. He left to start the food sherpa, his own personal chef business.
Personal Statement
Through my company, the food sherpa, I work with my busy clients to develop customized meal plans, cooking classes, and special events for their enjoyment. I provide delicious, creative, and unique food from only the best ingredients in the comfort of their own homes. When applicable, I even package and store the meals that I prepare with detailed heating instructions so that my food can be enjoyed at their convenience.
When my clients come home from a long day of work, they have the comfort of knowing that a delicious, healthy, and exciting meal is waiting for them to enjoy. Simply put, as the food sherpa, I am their guide to great food at home!

Credentials & Associations
the food sherpa is licensed and fully insured. Keith is certified by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals as a Food Safety Manager. In addition, Keith has been a member in good standing of the American Personal & Private Chef Association (APPCA) since April 2007 and the Annandale Chamber of Commerce since October 2007.

the food sherpa provides service in the counties of Arlington and Fairfax and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, and Fairfax in Virginia.
